Bay St. George RCMP have issued a warning about a cross Canada telephone scam that claims to be police in Stephenville. The detachment has received a number of calls about it and they appear to be coming from (709) 643-2118, the main detachment line there. Scammers claim that the call recipient is the victim of a fraud or cyber crime while trying to get personal and financial information. RCMP say if you do get a call like this, hang up and contact the detachment.
