More than one in three Atlantic Canadians are skipping meals or eating less because they can’t afford groceries and according to a Salvation Army Report, that’s a 13 percent increase over last year. The Salvation Army’s 2026 Canadian Poverty and Socioeconomic Analysis also finds that four out of every 10 Atlantic Canadians would need financial help within the first week if an emergency forced them from home, compared with 28% nationally. They surveyed more than 1,500 people to better understand their attitudes, behaviours and experiences related to poverty, food and housing affordability. The findings highlight how rising financial pressures can leave households with difficult choices about meeting everyday necessities. To learn more visit www.salvationarmy.ca.
