It started as a labour of love, stretched right across the province and is still warming the hearts of young and old. The story of a family furrbaby named “Reid” and his 45 day trek through the wilderness to find home is now in a children’s book.
On August 21st, Lorenzo Reid was in a collision just west of Gander. That’s when the 3 year-old Bernedoodle got a fright and took off into the woods. Yesterday, Reid stopped into Bayfm for a couple of treats. His mom, Carmel Mackey says there was a lot of damage to the vehicle and Lorenzo ended up in the hospital. She says once they posted about it on social media, people from everywhere joined in to help find Reid.
There were no confirmed sightings of Reid but Mackey says on Day 19 a man from the Twin Ponds area sent a picture of him from surveillance footage. Mackey says they set up three live traps near Gander and Reid was trapped.
Mackey wrote the book titled, “ Reid and the Wonderful Wild” and their daughter Marissa illustrated it. The book is available at amazon.ca.
