Not enough snow and lower temperatures have led to a delay in opening the snowmobiling season at Gros Morne National Park. This local community resident snowmobile season usually runs from November 1st to May 15th. It’s now slated to start December 15th. Under regulations, Parks Canada can change the date if there’s an absence of snow if conditions are unfavourable, dangerous, or impact vegetation, wildlife, or ecosystems. The Superintendent’s Closure Notice states “Ihis closure is for the protection of flora, fauna, habitat, and landscape, due to lack of snow.” Parks Canada will issue further notices as conditions change.
