On Monday, Bay St. George RCMP got a report of small metal objects found inside two pieces of bubble gum that were collected while trick or treating. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says it was inside Double Bubble Halloween gum and while they haven’t confirmed the source, it could have come from Stephenville or Kippens. The family was able to provide some details regarding the route and confirmed that they went door-to-door in several neighbourhoods including Area 13, Florida Loop, and the Spruce Drive area in Kippens.
O’Donaghey says parents and guardians should check all treats collected during Halloween as well as any that didn’t get handed out. Look for signs of tampering, but also for manufacturing defects. Make sure the packaging is intact and that the treats are a recognizable trusted commercial brand.
If you have concerns that a treat has been tampered with, set it aside and contact your local police detachment immediately.
