A new Bachelor of Engineering in Mining and Mineral Processing engineering program at Memorial University will be accepting its first students next fall. It’s a $9M initiative through government, Vale Base Metals, and MUN. Premier Tony Wakeham says there are upwards of 34 critical minerals identified in this province and the World needs this.
The program will provide students with a direct education-to-employment pathway through co-operative work terms and industry partnerships. It will also create a steady pipeline of highly qualified graduates who can pursue rewarding careers in a high-demand field. Wakeham ended his speech with a message for the mining industry about unearthing the potential here. He says by building talent right here at home we’re giving our young people a reason to stay and a future.
