As many communities are getting ready to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, the Corner Brook Fire Department wants everyone to be safe. On Bayfm this morning with Lenny Benoit, Captain Phillip Brinston offered some tips for bonfire night. This includes having small fires for roasting marshmallows, making sure the blaze is out when you’re done, and keeping a hose or fire extinguisher nearby. Brinston says never start fires near trees or leave fires unattended.
It looks like it will be one of the warmest nights to have a bonfire with temperatures forecasted to be around nine degrees or more. Brinston says a permit to burn is not needed but for anyone planning on having a fire, they should let the fire department know the address by calling 637-1620 or 637-1611.
Wayward Spruce on Lundrigan Drive is hosting a community bonfire from 6-8 p.m. and the CB Fire Department will be there to kick off their toy drive. Westside Tabernacle on Elizabeth Street is also hosting a bonfire.
