After only about a year into the role, Long Range Mountains MP Carol Anstey has introduced her first motion in the House of Commons as the critic for Energy and Natural Resources. She talked about the Conservative Emergency Fuel Relief Plan, highlighting the impact of rising fuel costs and delayed energy projects. Anstey shared the story of Dwight, a Deer Lake business owner employing 30 people, with trucking services that all of which depend on diesel.
The Conservative’s plan calls for the suspension of all federal taxes on diesel sales until at least July and a permanent removal of taxes on diesel production, including the federal industrial carbon tax and the clean fuel standard. Anstey also shared the story of Justin, a father of three working in Ontario to provide for his family back home. She says their plan also calls for emergency permitting for refineries and establishing a petroleum reserve. Anstey says “Canadians need relief that lasts longer than a few months and lowers the overall cost of fuel.”
