The Mayor of Lark Harbour says it’s been a busy summer in the Bay of Islands community with several big projects on the go. Wade Park says phase five of a water and sewer installation started last fall and is now complete with residents hooking up to it. There is a boil water advisory in effect. Park says the project was completed on budget but there is one more part from Bottle Cove Brook down to Little Port to be done and the town will soon be applying for funding to help with that.
Meanwhile, Resolve Marine has been working in the Cedar Cove area since May removing a grounded cargo ship. The vessel has been there since February of last year and Park says the team is making good progress. Over half of the scrapped metal has already been sent by barge to Stephenville. Park says a couple of loads have recently been sent by truck but he doesn’t expect any damage to the road as a result of this method. He says he’s confident that when the job is done, the area will be returned to what it was before.
Work is still ongoing as part of a $15M upgrade and expansion to the Canadian Coast Guard wharf in Lark Harbour, which will become the home of the Groswater Bay, one of 20 new Search and Rescue lifeboats added to the fleet.
