The world of country music is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved and recognizable stars.
Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. Her death was announced Tuesday by her family.
Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful and influential artists in country music history.
With a career spanning more than six decades, she released classics including Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors and I Will Always Love You.
Parton was equally well known for her generosity. Her Imagination Library, launched in 1995, has provided hundreds of millions of books to children and grown into an international literacy program, including here in Newfoundland & Labrador.
