32-year-old Tyler Day failed a roadside screening test and a breath test later at the detachment.

A 6-year-old boy has passed away from injuries during a hit and run by a man charged with impaired driving in St. John’s Thursday. The RNC say the driver fled from the scene before they arrived and the boy was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Thanks to a member of the public, police located the vehicle and arrested 32-year-old Tyler Day. He failed a roadside screening test and a breath test later at the detachment. Day was also wanted on outstanding warrants. His license was suspended and the vehicle impounded.

Meanwhile, the RNC continues to investigate a fatal pedestrian-vehicle collision in St. John’s. At about 10:30 a.m. on Friday, police were called to the scene where a 77-year-old man had died after being struck by a school bus. The driver of the bus  was not injured and remained at the scene.
