Girls in sports was the topic of choice on last week’s “The Plain Truth” on Bayfm. Host Paula Sheppard says a report from Canadian Women in Sports in 2020 discovered that the retention of girls and women in sports is a critical concern. Guest Jennifer Park is a parent of two athletes and was part of the coordinating committee for U18 female atlantic hockey tournament hosted here in April. She says there are barriers for girls. Summer Mosher is a former NL baseball player and current coach for Corner Brook Minor Baseball. She says it was hard to leave high school friends who also played baseball. Sheppard says the report also highlighted costs, confidence, skill, body image and safety.
