Executive Director Paula Sheppard-Thibeau says these kits are not expensive and medical staff rely on police to bring the kits to the hospital.
The Corner Brook Status of Women is raising the alarm over the lack of rape kits in our hospitals. Executive Director Paula Sheppard-Thibeau says unfortunately, these kits are not routinely found in clinics and hospitals. She says this means some women will not press charges. Sheppard-Thibeau says they will be hosting a facebook live event today which features a documentary by W5, called. “Untested Evidence.” She says these kits are not expensive and medical staff rely on police to bring the kits to the hospital. Sheppard-Thibeau says special training is not required to be able to perform the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) kits and a lot of people are not aware of that.
