Residents have been separating recyclables into two categories, of fibers and containers, which are collected on alternating weeks.
In January, the City of Corner Brook launched a new automated garbage collection and dual-stream recycling program. Residents have been separating recyclables into two categories, of fibers and containers, which are collected on alternating weeks. On Bayfm, Councillor Donna Luther spoke about how the program is working well and improving all the time. She says the city is paying less tipping fees at the landfill because more was being dumped than recycled.
Luther says after discussing this with the garbage collector, Murphy Brothers, residents can now use a smaller container to store recyclables at curbside. The bin has to be smaller than 120L because they are too deep and lead to injuries for collectors. Residents also have the option of using a blanket or net to cover recyclables at the curb.
