Program Coordinator Shelby Beals says youth work with a network of Community Partners across the province to advance locally determined environmental and cultural conservation priorities.

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador (CCNL) has employed over 100 youth through 26 Green Team projects and 9 internships. She says these programs aim to hire youth from the area. Some teams are working with Vine Place and Grenfell on community and greenhouse gardens.Beals says they also have a project at Grenfell creating educational materials at Grenfell’s Indigenous and International group. Beals says CCNL was a result of the cod moratorium in 1992 when an economic development commission created resources for youth to find employment. The Green Team program has been in operation since 1993.
