It’s a sign of troubling times in the snowmobile manufacturing industry. Arctic Cat has announced that after the first half of 2025 is complete, they will close facilities in Thief River Falls and St. Cloud, Minnesota. In its dealer communication letter, Arctic Cat says once this year’s orders are done, they will suspend manufacturing operations indefinitely. Textron Inc. also announced that it is exploring strategic alternatives regarding the future of the powersports business. Arctic Cat will continue to monitor conditions, but says production of future model years will depend on the outcome of Textron’s evaluation. Meanwhile, in June of 2023, Yamaha Motor announced an eventual withdrawal from the snowmobile business. After releasing their first snowmobile in 1968, Yamaha concluded it will be difficult to continue a sustainable business in the snowmobile market.
