It’s Aquaculture Week in NL, a time to highlight an industry that generated over $453 million last year. Last year’s total was also the highest economic value in the history of the sector. Aquaculture employs more than 500 workers directly and supports hundreds more across the province in processing plants and through indirect jobs in the service and supply industries. Newfoundland and Labrador is also recognized for its world‑class aquaculture regulatory framework that emphasizes environmental protection, aquatic animal health, transparency, and accountability. Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Loyola O’Driscoll says “As global demand for seafood continues to rise, we remain committed to supporting a sustainable and growing aquaculture industry that contributes to long-term food security.”
