Investors from around the world are in Toronto for a first of its kind gathering where Prime Minister Mark Carney is looking for $1T in total investment in Canada over the next 5 years but Premier Tony Wakeham is not there. Wakeham issued a statement yesterday saying while he can’t attend due to the special sitting of the House of Assembly on Churchill Falls development, a government official and team of representatives are there. He says, “With a $50-plus-billion capital spend in Newfoundland and Labrador, the new Churchill Falls and Gull Island deal is the largest clean energy investment in North American history; it is critical it receives due debate in the House of Assembly.” Wakeham says this province has “world-class opportunities in energy, critical minerals, technology, natural resources and strategic infrastructure, positioning the province as a key contributor to Canada’s economic resilience, energy security and competitiveness.” The Canada Investment Summit in Toronto wraps up today.
