One man is dead and a young person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near St. Judes on Friday. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says it happened just before noon and Deer Lake Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
The driver of one vehicle, a 43-year-old Nova Scotia man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a youth, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Corner Brook. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.
O’Donaghey says the investigation is continuing. A Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene and two off-duty medical personnel also assisted. The cause of the collision is not known at this time.
O’Donaghey says the TCH was closed for hours and they had reports of some motorists trying to use an ATV route but got into difficult circumstances trying to get through.
