Deer Lake Power is keeping an eye on the water level in the Grand Lake Reservoir and might have to open the gates at Main Dam to release some of it. Due to current and forecasted conditions, this could take place in the coming days and a notice will be issued. Water will be released over Main Dam, through Junction Brook and into the Upper Humber River. This means water levels will rise during the spilling period and may continue to fluctuate in the following days. Some areas accessible by land may become submerged or cut off. Back in May and June, the company had to open the gates due to high water levels in Grand Lake and the town of Deer Lake was under a flood watch.
