An English Professor at Grenfell Campus has just released a book titled, “Over the Lights and Over the Houses.” Tom Halford says it’s about a guy who has been in a rut for a long time. Nick Kearney decides to surprise his estranged sister with a visit after years of distance and silence between them. Before she moved away to Toronto, the two were inseparable, but time and unresolved pain have transformed their relationship.
Halford says he got the inspiration to write the book when he actually found the time to read a Christmas novel titled “Small Things,” by Claire Keegan. He says a year after he wrote the novel, he went to a book launch in Toronto, spoke to a few authors, and found a publisher.
Halford and his family have lived in Corner Brook for ten years but before that lived in St.John’s, New York State and Korea. They have two children and Halford is a soccer coach. This semester, Halford will be teaching an Engineering Communications course. He has also been working on a novel that is set in Corner Brook.
