Construction of a new modern bridge and highway work is starting on the TCH near Deer Lake Power. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area, expect closures and respect posted signage. Public access to the powerhouse area will close at 5 p.m.
In January, heavy rainfall created large potholes and speed was reduced to 30 km/hr. Repairs were made and in May, a contract worth more than $14.4M was awarded to JCL Investments Inc. to replace the Tailrace Bridge. It will be higher to allow for increased water levels, will have wider lanes and pedestrian walkways. There will also be a new access point west of the bridge, a parking area, and a pathway to the day‑use park.
