Students are getting ready to head back to school and for some, they’re headed for a season of firsts. Being away from home, meeting new friends, and becoming an adult. Dr. Peter Ride is the Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Grenfell Campus and dropped by Bay Fm for a chat. He says for university and college students it’s a time of discovery.
Ride says 20-30 years ago, more people went to university with a clearer sense of what they wanted to do and a degree was seen as the way to get ahead with a different kind of job. He says the employment sector isn’t as stable or predictable and changes like AI, are making young people want an education that will give them lots of opportunities.
Meanwhile, Grenfell is celebrating its 50th anniversary and last year was the 100th for MUN. Ride says they put together a publication called “Down the Line” to celebrate graduates. Email pride@mun.ca for a copy.
