Tiny ghosts, goblins and witches will be on the streets this Saturday in search of tricks or treats. The RNC wants young people to be prepared and able to recognize risks, make the right decisions, and stay safe when they’re on their own. Cst Stephanie Myers says so-called street-proofing can help children identify and react to situations that make them uncomfortable or that are even dangerous.
The RNC suggests parents and caregivers review these tips with their children:
Memorize key information like, full name, address, and emergency numbers.
Never approach a stranger.
Stay away from vehicles you do not know.
Never get into a stranger’s vehicle.
Avoid long conversations with strangers.
Never accept gifts from strangers.
Always walk to and from school or the bus stop with a parent, sibling, or friends.
If you are confronted by a stranger, do whatever it takes to get away.
