In the House of Assembly yesterday, the Minister responsible for WorkplaceNL, Mike Goosney, spoke about the anniversary for workers’ compensation and safe and healthy workplaces.

Today, WorkplaceNL is recognizing a milestone with their 75 years. In the House of Assembly yesterday, the Minister responsible for WorkplaceNL, Mike Goosney, spoke about the anniversary for workers’ compensation and safe and healthy workplaces. It was on this day in 1951, the Workmen’s Compensation Commission first opened its doors. Goosney says during that time, the lost-time injury rate in our province was three times higher than it is today, 3.82 injuries per 100 workers compared to 1.2 today. He says that decrease reflects decades of prevention, education, and collaboration; a result of the dedication of WorkplaceNL staff.
