New this year is “Ember” the Firesmart fox.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is this weekend. Joe Russell of the Corner Brook Fire Department says there will be an event Saturday at Margaret Bowater Park. He says this is part of a national campaign that encourages citizens to take action to increase their homes and neighbourhoods' resilience to fire. Russell says there will be lots to do and see when the event starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday with information booths, a BBQ, and kids activities. New this year is “Ember” the Firesmart fox. Russell tells Bayfm’s Lenny Benoit this will be her first visit to the province. He says homeowners should clean gutters, use fire rated shingles, and move firewood away from homes. He says embers can travel up to 2-3 kilometers.
