Fred Hutton says vendors are citing supply chain issues as the reason they can’t be delivered by the end of March, which is what the contract says.

Still on the topic of snow removal, there are about six and a half weeks before remaining snow plows are expected to be delivered to NL. Back in 2023, government ordered 44 new pieces of heavy equipment to replace aging infrastructure at 687 depots throughout the province. Last November, another 20 were ordered. Transportation Minister Fred Hutton says as of today, only 14 new snow plows have arrived and 9 of them are in use. He is disappointed that almost two years since ordering this equipment, they’re not guaranteed to get them by the end of March, which is what the contract says. Hutton says it takes time to replace this equipment and there are upwards of 580 pieces of equipment in NL that work on 9700 kms of highway. Hutton says vendors are citing supply chain issues as the reason they can’t be delivered by March 31st.
