The federal government has announced an $80M investment into Marine Atlantic in Nova Scotia. The money will be used to modernize critical shore-side infrastructure, improve service reliability and support the long-term delivery of safe, efficient ferry service between Nova Scotia and this province. Darrell Gallant is the corporation’s Vice President of Operations. He says it covers a wide range of projects that include electrical improvements to support shore power.
Gallant says several years ago they installed an auto-mooring system to a working dock in Port aux Basques and now one will be installed in North Sydney. Dock infrastructure in North Sydney will also be extended and Gallant says this can lead to future growth. He says some of the work has already started and design work on what has to be done next will start immediately.
These investments will help modernize the terminal, improve loading and unloading capacity, and support more efficient connections for customers and commercial traffic.
