As summer break begins and families spend more time outdoors, the Canadian Red Cross is reminding residents that emergencies don’t take a vacation. Josiane Demers is a Senior Emergency Management Coordinator for Western NL and is in Corner Brook this week. She says they’re meeting with local partners and connecting with residents about volunteer opportunities on the emergency management team in the region.
Demers says they have are over 13K volunteers across the country playing a critical role in supporting communities when crises strike. This includes everything from helping families after house fires and floods to supporting communities during wildfires and major disasters, emergency management volunteers make a real difference when it matters most.
Demers says volunteering is about so much more than giving back to your community; learning new skills, meeting people, and when local volunteers show up to help, people who need it feel more comfortable.
