Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in Canada and is the second largest source of income for illegal activity worldwide. That’s according to the CEO of the Deer Lake Regional Airport. Tammy Priddle says they’ve partnered with a group known as “Not in My City” to train staff in recognizing the signs of trafficking and reacting to protect victims. She says human trafficking is a very lucrative business with 93 percent of victims being from Canada and nearly a quarter of the victims are children, generating $280K per victim.
Priddle says since traffickers may use air travel to move victims, airports play a critical role in identifying and stopping it. She says human life and dignity are not commodities to be bought or sold. Learn more at notinmycity.ca
