On September 7th, the excise tax holiday of 10 cents per litre on gas and 4 cents per litre on diesel ends.

The head of the federal Conservatives Pierre Poilievre was in St. John’s for the Regatta yesterday and says he spent some time talking with people. He says one of the big concerns is ongoing high fuel prices. On September 7th, the excise tax holiday of 10 cents per litre on gas and 4 cents per litre on diesel ends. Poilievre says that needs to be extended for the rest of the year and the GST on gas and diesel needs to be removed, saving drivers up to 25 cents a litre, a savings of around $20 per fill-up, or $1000 until Christmas. The Conservatives also want the elimination of the Clean Fuel Regulation, which currently adds 7 cents per litre, but is expected to rise to 17 cents per litre by 2030.
