Walsh says while she agrees an increase is necessary, it doesn't leave private pay residents much of a chance to seek other housing options.
Seniors’ Advocate Susan Walsh is asking for a 90-day pause before personal care homes in the province raise their rates. Walsh says while she agrees an increase is necessary, it doesn't leave private pay residents much of a chance to seek other housing options. She says she has been contacted by numerous private-pay residents and family members who are very concerned. Walsh says some senior residents have received a 30-day notice of the increase and fear not having time to explore alternate options and ultimately eviction if they cannot afford the increased rate.
