A province wide initiative, called the “Safe and Sound” Community Rally is set to take place this afternoon at 11 locations, including Corner Brook, Bay St.George, Port aux Basques and the Northern Peninsula. It’s organized by the Guardians of Recovery Group and is a call to restore public safety, and demand real and accessible recovery solutions for addictions and mental health. Bev Allen is a Western Guardians Volunteer and says the group consists of about 6400 members.
She says since 27 Sober Living Homes opened in Alberta, there have been 34% less overdoses and 9% less crime. She says they ten such homes to open in NL and two locations have been confirmed, including Corner Brook. Today’s Safe and Sound Community rally in Corner Brook takes place at city hall from noon until 2 p.m.
