On Wednesday, $80M was announced for Marine Atlantic’s terminal in North Sydney.

About $270M will be spent on infrastructure at Marine Atlantic’s terminals in Port aux Basques and Argentia. This multi-year capital program is valued at $350 million. President & CEO Murray Hupman says in Port aux Basques, work will include navigation improvements, the planned removal of Vardy’s Rock, dock extensions and auto-mooring upgrades, as well as electrical improvements to support shore power.

He says from the organization’s perspective, this means they can handle larger ships and more than one at a time, enabling them to carry more capacity.

Hupman says for the customer, it will be easier to book a crossing down the road. He says improving operational efficiency and  strengthening service reliability puts Marine Atlantic in a better position to meet future needs.
