A dedicated team of His Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) St. John's stopped in Corner Brook this past weekend as part of the annual “Run the Rock.” It’s through Make A Wish Canada, who has granted more than 40,000 wishes over the past 43 years across the country to children with critical illnesses. Jenn Hayes is the Manager, Community Partnerships, and says “Run the Rock” has a goal of raising $200K this year, which will grant twenty wishes over the next couple of years.
It’s also the first time for the 16-member team from HMCS St. John’s and the 15-day relay covers over 900 kms. Mitchell Sheppard is a Sub-lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy and says they enjoyed their stop in Corner Brook. He
says so far, he’s “blown away” by the generosity of people in NL and thinks their goal can be achieved. Run the Rock started in Port aux Basques on July 2nd and will finish in St. John’s, July 16th. Learn more at makeawish.ca.
