Up to 280,000 megawatt hours of power at $187 per megawatt hour could be bought from Deer Lake Power so NLHydro can use it when needed.
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has extended its power purchase agreement with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited for one year. It started July 1st and ends on June 30th 2027. Up to 280,000 megawatt hours of power at $187 per megawatt hour could be bought from Deer Lake Power so NLHydro can use it when needed. In the meantime, it gives government a chance to review and consider Kruger’s proposal to revitalize the mill. This will not mean an increase in electricity rates for customers. Finance Minister Craig Pardy says “Extending the power purchase agreement gives our government the time needed to carefully review Kruger’s proposed diversification plans and ensure any future decisions are in the best interests of the people of our province.”
