Traffic was re-routed through Marble Drive.

UPDATE: The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) advises that the Trans-Canada Highway in Western Newfoundland has now re-opened to traffic. The RNC apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the public for its co-operation during this matter.

EARLIER STORY: The Trans Canada Highway near Steady Brook is closed. RNC Cst Stephanie Myers says the TCH is closed eastbound in that area as crews clear what appears to be an industrial spill across a 2 km stretch of the roadway. Traffic is being re-routed through Marble Drive.

Myers says no one was injured but visibility is poor. She says drivers need to slow down, drive with caution, and follow the direction of responders onsite. It’s not known how long the clean up will take.
