Only use tablets or devices in common areas at home.
As students are getting used to the start of another school year, the RNC is stressing the importance of online safety. Cst James Cadigan says just like buying school supplies, ensuring young people are safe on the web in today’s world is increasingly important. Only use tablets or devices in common areas at home. Parents are advised to keep devices connected to the internet out of bedrooms and other private spaces. Know your children’s usernames and passwords, and regularly monitor their online activity.
Cadigan says to explain to children that once pictures are sent to others it cannot be undone. Pictures should only be exchanged with a parent’s permission.
Cadigan says talk to your children about cyber bullying. Tell them not to participate and to tell an adult immediately.
