The penalties for passing a school bus are six demerit points and up to $1,200 in fines.

As students start to head back to school tomorrow, the RNC will be increasing patrols of school zones. Cst James Cadigan wants motorists to keep an eye out and traffic lanes in both directions have to stop for school buses with their stop signs extended. The penalties for passing a school bus are six demerit points and up to $1,200 in fines. Cadigan says to never use mobile phones or electronic devices while driving and avoid things like eating breakfast or putting on makeup. He says it’s an exciting time of year and some students may be distracted so drivers are reminded to pay extra attention to the actions of children near intersections, crosswalks, and in parking lots.
