An electronic vote will open October 18th at 8 a.m. and close 8 p.m. on election day which is October 25th.

It’s almost election time for members of the Qalipu First Nations. Reesha Knott is the electoral officer at the band office. She says there are 9 wards or electoral boundaries for members in the western and central regions. Nominations for councillors closed on October 2nd with 20 nominations. Voting for the central region will take place in Glenwood and Exploits. Gander Bay was acclaimed. For the western region, there will be a ward vote for Port au Port, while Flat Bay, Stephenville, Corner Brook and Benoits Cove have been acclaimed. No candidate came forward in St. George’s so there will be a byelection there. Even though some wards have been acclaimed, Qalipu members can still vote for the Vice-Chief and Chief positions. Voter packages have been  mailed out and should be received by October 16th. An electronic vote will open October 18th at 8 a.m. and close 8 p.m. on election day which is October 25th. Last year saw an increase in votes cast by 15 percent.
