This is to restore areas of forest that were impacted by moose over-browsing.
Helicopters will be a daily thing and some sites in Gros Morne National Park will be closed as Parks Canada has started planting trees. Up until August 26th, 200,000 seedlings will go in the ground in remote areas of the park including inland from Cow Head and between Sally’s Cove and Baker’s Brook Pond. This is to restore areas of forest that were impacted by moose over-browsing. During this time, helicopters will be working near Route 430 transporting field teams and slinging loads of tree seedlings between 8 am and 6 pm. Some sites in the park may temporarily close for public safety while seedlings are being loaded including the viewpoint north of Cow Head along Route 430. These closures will only last a few hours and traffic or park visits should not be affected.
