Government has set July 17th as the deadline for the public to comment on a renewable energy storage and generation facility in the Bay St. George area. The Fischells Salt Dome Power Generation Project will include a main facility with salt caverns, salt production, compressed air energy storage, marine components and pipelines to transport seawater from St. George’s Bay. This will be used in the solution mining process and also includes a wind farm and a transmission line connecting the facility to the provincial electricity system at the Bottom Brook terminal station. Construction is planned to start in 2028, be fully operational by 2031, and run for 50 years or more. The Environment minister’s decision is due by July 26th.
