Western Regional Waste Management has confirmed there is no longer a risk to public safety at the Wildcove landfill. A fire at the dump broke out June 4th and the facility was closed to the public until June 8th. On Bayfm’s Trash Talk, Outreach Coordinator Lynn Howse says there could still be smoldering in the area for a while.
The blaze broke out around 10:30 Thursday night and the fire was contained around 8:30 the next morning. Howse says it was a rapid response by many people and organizations.
No equipment or buildings were affected, and an excavator and a water bomber were used.
