Gerry Byrne says Gudie Hutchings has recognized this responsibility has been delayed and even suggests there could be other ways to get funding.

The provincial government is stepping up to fill the gap for school kids who receive funding from Jordan’s Principle for an assistant. Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture Minister and Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says this is in response to a commitment from federal MP and ACOA Minister Gudie Hutchings. Byrne says education for indigenous children is a shared responsibility between Canada and the provinces. He says Hutchings has recognized this responsibility has been delayed and even suggests there could be other ways to get funding. Byrne says the province will cover those who did receive funding last year under Jordan’s Principle with Interim funding up until January 1st, and get the money back from Ottawa. He’s confident Ottawa will reimburse the province or says Hutchings should resign.
