Porter Airlines took off with a new direct flight service to Ottawa from Deer Lake last week. This seasonal route includes four weekly roundtrips. Andrew Pierce is the vice president, network planning and reporting. He says everyone is excited about this and there has been a lot of interest. Pierce says these new flights have direct connections to Toronto-Pearson, Hamilton, Calgary and Edmonton. He says since starting a service from western NL a couple of years ago, it has been both profitable and sustainable. The seasonal route Deer Lake to Ottawa will end in early September.
