Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham is urging government to maintain the provincial gas tax relief as a countermeasure against the federal government’s carbon tax hike on gas and groceries scheduled for April 1. Wakeham says it’s an opportunity for the Premier “to step up and help mitigate Trudeau’s carbon tax by extending the provincial gas tax relief for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. He says “the combined impact on April 1 would be an additional 11.8 cents per litre at the pump.” He says “with groceries 10 percent higher today than they were a year ago,
the last thing the people of our province need is a massive tax hike.”
