The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of NL is a national charity dedicated to finding a cure for 137 different types of blood cancers. Society spokesperson Michelle Lambert says they also help improve the lives of those diagnosed and their families through a variety of services like peer support programs, information and clinical trials. They also invest in research that has led to doubling of survival rates like in pediatrics where rates have gone from 5 percent to 90 percent. Lambert says the Light the Night event is their biggest fundraiser of the year and is being hosted by Fairway Honda. Spokesperson Mikayla Sparkes says she ran with sponsoring the idea since this event involves a car show. Tonight’s event also includes a barbecue, car show, raffle prizes from local sponsors, and kids activities like hot wheels, face painting and a coloring contest. It all takes place at Fairway Honda on Confederation drive between 6 and 9 p.m.
