A north shore Bay of Islands community is trying to deal with vandalism. Irishtown-Summerside issued an alert today concerning damage done to buildings, playgrounds, equipment, and town amenities. For example, there were new basketball nets installed at the Town Hall Parking Lot and within 1 week of the installation, the backboard was destroyed by a rock. The basketball nets have since been removed for repair. This is costly and the funds to pay for these expenses come out of taxpayer’s money. Last weekend, the town gathered footage of children in the pavilion climbing up in the rafters and throwing bikes around. There are cameras in place that record 24 hours a day. The town will have no other choice but to pass along camera footage to the proper authorities to handle the situation should this continue. Officials are asking parents to speak to their children about the matter.
