The new community greenhouse builds on this partnership to create a community sustainability hub that is quickly becoming a visual landmark in the downtown area.
For those who have wondered about the dome greenhouse across from the mill in Corner Brook, there will be a chance tomorrow to check it out. A grand opening will get underway at 10 a.m. It’s a partnership project between the city and the Western Environment Centre (WEC). Both have a long standing partnership and WEC currently operates five community gardens and community compost programs within city boundaries. The new community greenhouse builds on this partnership to create a community sustainability hub that is quickly becoming a visual landmark in the downtown area. WEC Executive Director Katie Temple says the Growing Dome Program will be a large community greenhouse to a growing local food network in Corner Brook. This year, WEC will partner with the Association of New Canadians. Temple says this is a pilot project and other community groups may be invited to take part once the pilot is complete.. Federal and municipal representatives will be in attendance at tomorrow’s opening. A work party will take place afterwards to fill the greenhouse beds with soil and compost.
