There are currently no laws in this province that formally allow supported decision-making, whereby adults can make decisions with the help of someone they trust rather than having someone else decide for them. Now, government has launched a survey to change this. A new framework would help guide the development of improved legislation and policies and identify how to make supported decision-making an option for those who need it. A second questionnaire is being launched to further inform development of the framework so people are supported in decision-making processes as fully as possible. The online questionnaire is available through EngageNL or by emailing decisionmaking@gov.nl.ca and can also be sent by mail. This will close on August 21st. Seniors Minister Craig Pardy says “Every person, including seniors, deserves the opportunity to be meaningfully involved in decisions that affect their lives.”
